AW2 Community Support Network

Care Packages, Letters and Messages, and Moral Support

Each organization listed in the AW2 Community Support Network offers services that are either covered by insurance or free to AW2 Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families. AW2 Soldiers, Veterans, and Families are encouraged to contact these organizations directly for more information about the services they offer.

American Veterans (AMVETS) External Link, Opens in New Window

AMVETS, one of the nation's largest Veterans' organizations, is proud to support AW2 Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families by offering services such as advocacy in the Department of Veterans Affairs claims process and financial assistance during recovery. AMVETS' 180,000 members at more than 1,300 posts from coast-to-coast stand ready to support wounded warriors.

America's Adopt A Soldier External Link, Opens in New Window

America's Adopt A Soldier works to make a difference in the lives of Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families. Local chapters hosting packing events, raise funds for postage and event support, and pack, and ship packages. They sponsor local and national events that focus on Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families, such as workshops for post-traumatic stress disorder and the Wounded Warrior Path To Strength, a four-day course with corporate sponsors providing healing, knowledge, and social capital.

Blue Star Riders is a non-profit organization of riders and non-riders who support America's troops and Veterans and honor wounded warriors and fallen heroes. Their activities include visiting hospitals and outreach centers, attending funerals for fallen heroes, spreading the word of the fallen, and Wounded Warrior Torch. They bring awareness to America's fallen and wounded warriors by attending Veterans' events like Cripple Creek, Rolling Thunder, and special memorial services for Families.

Boatsie's Boxes supports America's men and women in the military in whatever way will bring them comfort. Their purpose is to prepare and ship care boxes filled with needed items to the United States military personnel.

Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors External Link, Opens in New Window

Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors is a free, safe and healing sanctuary where our wounded warriors and their families can relax, reconnect and recover from the horrific effects of war. Our facility includes developing partnerships with local non-profit organizations who will offer various nature-focused, evidence-based, non-clinical therapy programs for the service member, their spouses and their children. Located 60 miles outside of Washington, DC, in Bluemont, VA, Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors serves outpatients from the new Walter Reed National Medical Center at Bethesda and the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.

Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi is a non-profit organization that provides support to our local wounded warriors of all services to include, financial resources, assistance with VA benefits, employment, and spiritual. We collaborate with other local organizations to facilitate the needs of our Mississippi Wounded Warriors.

Comfort for America's Uniformed Services (CAUSE) External Link, Opens in New Window

CAUSE organizes recreation and entertainment programs for wounded warriors recuperating at military medical facilities from injuries received in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other military conflicts.

Flags Across The Nation External Link, Opens in New Window

Flags Across The Nation is a volunteer organization that promotes patriotism through the arts. Their programs offer opportunities for children and adults to demonstrate respect for the American flag and support for servicemembers, wounded warriors, and Veterans with patriotic art, letters, blankets, flags, and art/photo exhibits.

Freedom Alliance provides broad support to Soldiers and their Families, including morale-building concerts and grants to wounded servicemembers.

Grateful American Coin External Link, Opens in New Window

Grateful American Coin (GAC) provides a tangible way to display gratitude to active military personnel and Veterans. GAC offers challenge coins with the inscription, "To the member of the U.S. Armed Forces, thank you, from a Grateful American." Coins may be purchased for a low cost, and proceeds are donated to organizations supporting wounded warriors and children of servicemembers. GAC ships coins directly to the purchaser or to the recipient.

Heroes to Hometowns is designed to welcome home servicemembers who are severely injured. In facilitating a positive transition home, Heroes to Hometowns inspires community pride and establishes a support network for servicemembers and their Families so they can live productive lives. Heroes to Hometowns also offers national assistance.

Military OutReach & Encouragement (M.O.R.E.) is a group of concerned Christians who show love and encouragement to deployed servicemembers, wounded warriors, and Veterans of all services. They provide emotional support to those who have been called away from their homes, Families, churches, and jobs. They accomplish their goals through individual prayer for each servicemember, regular correspondence, and occasional care packages.

Missouri Warrior Writers Project External Link, Opens in New Window

Missouri's professional writing community is reaching out to our state's veterans to give them an opportunity to reflect on their service. In partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council, the Missouri Warrior Writer Project is helping soldiers and their families write about their wartime experiences. A distinguished panel of Missouri authors and poets is being brought together to conduct workshops at Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital, on university and college campuses, and with Family Readiness Units statewide. We are in the process of establishing a nation-wide program for writing assistance for veterans and soldiers.

Operation First Response (OFR) supports America's wounded warriors and their Families with personal and financial needs. Services are provided from the onset of injury, through recovery, and along the warrior's journey from military life into the civilian world. Financial aid varies as each case is based on individual needs ranging from rent, utilities, vehicle payments, groceries, clothing, and travel expenses.

Operation Homefront provides emergency and other assistance to the military Families and wounded warriors. Through a network of over 26 chapters covering 32 states, the organization offers assistance and resource and referral.

Operation Homefront of Texas External Link, Opens in New Window

Operation Homefront of Texas provides emergency and morale assistance for troops, their Families, and wounded warriors. They also assist when servicemembers transition from the military to the Department of Veterans Affairs system.

Operation Pinecone External Link, Opens in New Window

Operation Pinecone is an all-volunteer organization that brings comfort items and additional support to wounded servicemembers, Families, and loved ones located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Medical Center, as well as the medical centers' supportive housing facilities such as the Fisher Houses and the Mologne House Hotel.

Operation Second Chance provides a wide range of services to wounded servicemembers and their Families from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom to facilitate their transition back to civilian life. These services include personal visits to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, financial assistance, monthly retreats, and assistance in the modification of housing for disabled Veterans.

Operation Ward 57 supports wounded warriors, their Families and medical staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center by providing items that assists in recovery, maintenance and morale of the hospital environment and through advocacy, education, and promotion of their circumstance.

The Phoenix Soldiers Foundation External Link, Opens in New Window

Phoenix Soldiers gives luxury vacations to all branches of the military, focusing on amputees and wounded Soldiers. The foundation was started in honor of a U.S. Army Veteran who lost his arm while serving our country. Our mission is to seek out wounded Veterans and active duty military personnel and offer vacations, gifts, or whatever they may need. Without their service, our freedom would not exist, and we feel every Veteran deserves to be pampered and taken care of.

The Redistribution Center, Inc., provides emergency services which includes a months' worth of food for Families that are in need. TBI/PTSD Soldiers, Veterans and others can be referred for assistance with new household items, furniture and clothing and can request other items that might be needed.

This is a Christian organization, but open to all military and their families. Our goal is to provide support for all military personnel (active and otherwise) and their families. These are our programs: 1) Support Group for Combat Veterans 2) Support Group for Military Families 3) Projects to encourage our active duty troops through cards, letters and other projects. 4) Referrals to Resources. The purpose of Show of Support is to demonstrate public support for the men and women of the military by providing outdoor opportunities to those injured in service to America. This program also brings public awareness to the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing and respect for natural resources, their care, and preservation.

The Silver Star Families of America External Link, Opens in New Window

Silver Star Families of America (SSFOA) is dedicated to supporting the wounded servicemembers and their Families of all branches of service from all wars. SSFOA members work to permanently set May 1st as Silver Star Banner Day to honor wounded, ill, and dying Veterans. SSFOA educates the public about wounded warriors and provides many programs to aid in their progress. They also work together with other troop organizations and groups to support in whatever way possible.

Stay Strong Nation External Link, Opens in New Window

Stay Strong Nation works to create awareness of Soldiers and Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress (PTS) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They are involved in the building of a PTS facility in Maui, Hawaii, that will provide therapy for Veterans with PTS in a relaxed environment and offer recreational activities, such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, whale watching, jet skiing, hang gliding, and sport fishing.

United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO) External Link, Opens in New Window

The USO is dedicated to providing world-class services and support to America's wounded warriors and their Families. From providing comfort kits to on-site recreational programs, the USO's network of care will be there, especially when needed most.
