Amputee Support and Information

National Amputation Foundation External Link, Opens in New Window

The National Amputation Foundation (NAF) offers support, information, and encouragement to those with major limb loss. NAF sponsors an Amp-to-Amp program to connect new amputees to members of the organization and teaches amputees adaptive sports, such as skiing and golf. NAF also hosts bingo games at local Veterans Affairs hospitals and nursing homes, offers a scholarship for college students with major limb loss, and coordinates a donated medical equipment program.

Cell Phones For Soldiers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing free means of communication to the men and women serving in the United States military. Since 2004, founders Robbie and Brittany Bergquist have spearheaded the donation of more than 114 million minutes to service men and women overseas. It operates Medicare-certified home health agencies in Louisiana, Michigan, Texas, and Virginia. All agencies are Tricare in-network providers. The company is dedicated to providing high-quality, cost effective health care services ranging from assistance with the activities of daily living to highly specialized therapies, including wound care, management, and a unique, evidence-based behavioral health program to assist individuals and Families struggling with behavioral health disorders.

The Virginia Wounded Warrior Program serves Veterans of any era who are Virginia residents, members of the Virginia National Guard and Armed Forces Reserves not in active federal service, and the Family members of those Veterans and service members. It provides a network of community-based services designed to help Veterans and their Families overcome the challenge of stress-related issues and traumatic brain injuries.

INRange Systems, Inc. produces EMMA®, an Electronic Medication Management System, that provides hospital-style medication management in a residential setting. EMMA® consists of a Medication Delivery Unit (MDU), wireless two-way communication software, and a disposable medication package (blister card). The system allows a physician, nurse case manager, or pharmacist to remotely manage prescriptions stored in the patient-operated MDU. EMMA® is 100% covered by TRICARE for active duty personnel.

Heroes Night Out-Green Zone Resource Center shows our support and appreciation for our wounded military heroes, veterans and their families. HNO Green Zone Resource Center is a facility where military and their families can come for help and information on their entitled VA benefits and other resources available to them at no cost.

Peer Mentoring

MVLE, Inc., takes pride in helping those who have served. Their focus is helping with transitioning from the military workforce to the civilian sector. MLVE, Inc., works with individuals facing barriers to employment within the community. In 2011 they began a new employment initiative providing employment and support services to Veterans.

The Annapolis Veterans Acupuncture Clinic (AVAC) is a free weekly stress relief acupuncture clinic for Veterans, active duty and their Families. The clinic provides improved sleep and increased energy; improved mental clarity, focus, concentration and memory. It also reduces stress, anxiety and irritability; and decreased hyper-vigilance, flashbacks and nightmares. No appointment or pre-registration needed.

Substance Abuse Rehabilitation

The Shenandoah Valley Teen Challenge, Inc. is a faith-based organization helping those who wish to remain free from alcohol/drug dependencies. We provide the answers to “what next” after you say “I quit.” In our 12 year history, we have had a success rate of 65-70% of those who complete our program. Most of our centers offer a 12-18 month residential program for men, women, boys, or girls. These centers are designed to help individuals learn how to live drug-free lives. The programs are discipline-oriented and offer a balance of Bible classes, work assignments, and recreation.

Habitat for Humanity International is a global non-profit that welcomes people of all races, religions and nationalities to construct, rehabilitate or preserve homes; advocates for fair and just housing policies; and provides training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat serves military members, veterans and their families with volunteer, homeownership and employment opportunities.
