Adaptive Sports and Recreational Services
Each organization listed in the AW2 Community Support Network offers services that are either covered by insurance or free to AW2 Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families. AW2 Soldiers, Veterans, and Families are encouraged to contact these organizations directly for more information about the services they offer.
AccesSportAmerica 
AccesSportAmerica adapts and teaches high-challenge sports to people living with disabilities in the hope of finding high function. AccesSportAmerica focuses on specialized conditioning and training in addition to sports, ranging from wind-surfing and Hawaiian outrigger canoeing to tennis and soccer. Located in the Boston area, AccesSportAmerica programs have been conducted through Bedford and Boston VA facilities.
Armed Forces Foundation 
The Armed Forces Foundation is dedicated to providing comfort and solace to members of the United States Armed Forces community by providing financial support, career counseling services, homeowners' education, recreational therapy programs, and funding awareness projects.
Blinded Veterans Association 
Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) supports blinded and visually impaired Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families through the rehabilitation process and adjustment to vision loss. BVA Field Service Officers have in-depth knowledge on rehabilitation options, benefits counseling, resources, career advising, and many other topics. BVA's Operation Peer Support initiative invites blinded Soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan to meet each other and other Veterans who have adjusted to vision loss.
Capital Region Nordic Alliance 
Capital Region Nordic Alliance (CRNA) is a not for profit outdoor Nordic recreation alliance, located in the capital region of New York State, focusing on year round activities in the Nordic Sports of Biathlon, Orienteering, Snowshoeing and Cross-Country Skiing. To meet its goal of complete access to all populations, particularly those with special needs or who are disabled, the Capital Region Nordic Alliance provides comprehensive education and mentoring assuring maximal benefit to all. We create a healthy outdoor community environment by promoting all alliance activities in grounded education and mentoring and foster the growth of not only their Nordic sport but other Alliance sports through hosting events open to the broader community year round with appropriate staff ensuring safe; enjoyable events. We include the entire greater community regardless of ability or orientation and collaborate with local or regional organizations to assure the sports and their events have a positive economic impact on the region.
Champions Made From Adversity 
Champions Made From Adversity (CMFA) was founded in 2007 by two disabled Veterans. CMFA's mission is to advance the lives of persons with physical disabilities and their Families through sport and leisure activities. CMFA is a U.S. Paralympic Sport Club and serves more than 60,000 physically disabled in the Central Savannah River Area.
Comfort for America's Uniformed Services (CAUSE) 
CAUSE organizes recreation and entertainment programs for wounded warriors recuperating at military medical facilities from injuries received in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other military conflicts.
Dive Pirates Foundation 
Based on camaraderie, compassion, freedom to dive, and the Dive Pirates code of conduct, Dive Pirates will support, train, equip, and provide dive travel to individuals with physical disabilities through adaptive scuba diving. Dive Pirates' vision is to create a community of adaptive divers that will dive and travel in the mainstream world of scuba diving.
Fore Hope, Inc. 
Fore Hope uses the benefits of golf to improve lives and is introducing their program to as many military personnel and Families as possible. Fore Hope is available to educate and provide positive experiences for individuals on the road to recovery, using golf as the means to meet defined therapy goals. Individuals can regain a sense of balance through an increase in physical activity, social opportunities, outdoor experiences, and a return to life's mainstream.
Freedom Alliance 
Freedom Alliance provides broad support to Soldiers and their Families, including morale-building concerts and grants to wounded servicemembers.
Freedom Is Not Free 
Freedom Is Not Free provides quality of life enhancements and financial assistance to wounded servicemembers and their Families. Freedom Is Not Free also provides children of military Families "experiences of a lifetime" though participation in annual camps.
Ski Apache Disabled Skiers Program 
Ski Apache Disabled Skiers Program offers adaptive skiing and snowboard instructions to individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities regardless of severity of disability or financial limitations.
Game Day for Heroes 
Game Day for Heroes provides free tickets to college sporting events to AW2 Soldiers and Veterans. This project started as a community service effort for the Columbus-Phenix City Auburn Club, which sent AW2 Soldiers and Veterans to the Auburn Tigers football and basketball games. The program plans to work with other colleges and universities throughout the United States to offer sporting event tickets to other AW2 Soldiers and Veterans across the country.
Great Smoky Mountains Railroads 
Operating year-round with 53 miles of track, 2 tunnels, and 25 bridges, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad (GSMR) offers a variety of excursions that explore the amazing landscape of western North Carolina. Passengers enjoy scenic train journeys in a spectacular region near Great Smoky Mountains National Park and visit Smoky Mountains Trains, one of the country's largest train collections. GSMR offers free train rides to AW2 Soldiers, Veterans, and their immediate Families, up to five people.
Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors 
Heartbeat Serving Wounded Warriors recognizes that the road to recovery is a long and difficult one for the wounded warrior Family and offers emergency assistance for those who qualify. Heartbeat also offers morale programs, including adopting wounded warrior Families for Christmas, new therapeutic programs, such as Back in the Saddle Warriors and Scuba Warriors, and Assignment, Recovery & Comfort kits for newly wounded personnel.
HAVE-Alaska 
HAVE-Alaska is an Alaska-based organization dedicated to promoting the physical and psychological rehabilitation of American Veterans injured in service to our country through outdoor activities and travel. Our mission is to fund and facilitate activities in Alaska for American Veterans, their spouses, and dependents. We provide activities such as fishing, boating, whitewater rafting, hunting, kayaking, flight seeing, snowmobile tours, gold panning, bicycling, cruise vacations, cultural tours, wildlife viewing, National Park tours, dog mushing, skiing, etc.
Heroes on the Water 
Heroes on the Water serves all military personnel who have been wounded, injured, or disabled, physically or mentally, while serving on active duty, in the Reserves, or National Guard. The program's primary goal is to assist injured servicemembers with their physical and mental recovery by introducing them to the therapeutic qualities of fishing from kayaks. The program allows participants to decompress from the stresses associated with combat and the physical rigors of rehabilitation.
Higher Ground 
Higher Ground, a program of Sun Valley Adaptive Sports, hosts a one-week therapeutic recreation to veterans with traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder, polytrauma, and other injuries. The program offers six to eight veterans and their supporters (spouses, friends, veterans, or family) to participate in activities such as snow sports, water sports, fly fishing, and river adventure. We continue to follow up for three years with resources for recreation pursuits and other needs at home. All program costs are covered by Higher Ground for all attendees.
Hope For The Warriors 
Hope For The Warriors works to enhance the quality of life for servicemembers and their Families nationwide who have been affected by injuries or death in the line of duty. Their programs offer a full cycle of support, starting with Immediate Needs financial assistance, and continuing through A Warrior's Wish, Warrior's Hope & Morale, Above & Beyond professional development, spouse/caregiver scholarships, Team Hope For The Warriors, and other programs.
Horses4Heroes, Inc. 
Horses4Heroes, Inc., is the leading family horseback riding non-profit program that enriches lives and empowers our youth by offering able-bodied, affordable horseback riding programs that emphasize fun and safe activities with horses, mounted and un-mounted for all ages. Participants learn valuable leadership and teamwork skills, make new friends, and develop a lifelong love of horses. This organization serves the Families of all servicemen and women, First responders and other heroes in communities across the country.
Horses for Heroes, Inc. (New Mexico, Inc.) 
Horses for Heroes-New Mexico, Inc., is a 501 © 3 non-profit. This is a unique horse therapy wellness program, free to Veterans and active military who have sustained physical injuries or combat trauma during their time serving our country. From day one Veterans are hands on with their horses beginning with groundwork and progressing to riding. There are other opportunities to participate in other aspects of camaraderie with cowboys who are Veterans themselves.

The team is made up of retired military personnel and elite runners who provide world class support in the area of logistics, IT, coaching, motivating, and training walkers and runners at every fitness level. In addition, they are subject matter experts in directing and coordinating walking/running/athletic events. Irun4god.com stands ready to assist AW2's and their Families on their road to recovery.
Lakeshore Foundation: Lima Foxtrot Program 
Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama, is dedicated to serving individuals with physically disabling conditions through physical activity, sports, and recreation. They have the experience and expertise to help severely injured servicemembers regain active and independent lives and are pleased to offer the Lima Foxtrot programs. Lima Foxtrot is a comprehensive program of fitness, recreation, sport, and transition support for severely injured military personnel throughout the nation.
The Link-Up.org 
The Link-Up's mission is to empower wounded warriors with self-reliance to get back to the outdoor sport of their interest. Using an internet-based social networking platform, they connect injured Veterans with donors who can assist them to arrange a day or more of outdoor recreation. Their goal is to create a social network for donors and wounded warriors to make arrangements for hunting, fishing, and other interests, all to enhance the wounded warrior's recovery.
Meet Yourself Yoga Therapy 
Meet Yourself Yoga Therapy (MTYT) provides one-on-one and couples yoga therapy, as well group classes. MTYT currently offers classes and private sessions at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. Benefits from this body-oriented therapy that includes self-inquiry include: increased sense of calm and joy, engagement in life, ability to sleep better and manage moods more easily. In addition, intrusive thoughts and avoidance of situations are lessened. Interpersonal relationships are improved as self-awareness increases. No knowledge of yoga needed, nor flexibility in the body.
Northeast Dupage Special Recreation Association 
Northeast Dupage Special Recreation Association (NEDSRA) is a non-profit organization that provides fitness and recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Illinois.
Operation Oasis Healing Through Love 
Operation Oasis was created to care for the unmet needs of Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families after witnessing the challenges facing wounded warriors returning to the United States for medical care. Operation Oasis provides free therapeutic treatments to wounded Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families at the Fort Sam Houston Fisher House and Mediterranean Day Spa.
Operation Second Chance 
Operation Second Chance provides a wide range of services to wounded servicemembers and their Families from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom to facilitate their transition back to civilian life. These services include personal visits to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, financial assistance, monthly retreats, and assistance in the modification of housing for disabled Veterans.
Operation Stand Down Rhode Island 
Operation Stand Down Rhode Island is a non-profit organization that helps homeless and disabled Veterans. They provide social services, counseling, and other services. The organization's goal is to enable each Veteran to achieve self-worth and independence.
Our Forgotten Warriors 
Our Forgotten Warriors provides short-term structured housing for active duty servicemembers and Veterans who recently sustained emotional and cognitive injuries in the line of duty. The staff helps warriors increase their level of independent functioning. The staff affirms warriors as the heroes they are and increase the warriors' determination to overcome obstacles and challenge others to follow their example.
Our Military Kids 
Our Military Kids supports the children of severely injured military personnel through grants for sports, fine arts, or academic enrichment programs. Such activities help nurture and sustain the children during a parent's lengthy recovery and/or rehabilitation. Grant applications can be found at the website above.
Outdoor Explorations 
Outdoor Explorations makes the outdoors a welcoming place to people with disabilities. Through their innovative, cooperative, and fun approach, they break down barriers that prevent people from living life to the fullest. Outdoor Explorations adventure programs, training, and community service enable people of all abilities to discover and value their own and others' unique strengths.
The Phoenix Soldiers Foundation 
Phoenix Soldiers gives luxury vacations to all branches of the military, focusing on amputees and wounded Soldiers. The foundation was started in honor of a U.S. Army Veteran who lost his arm while serving our country. Our mission is to seek out wounded Veterans and active duty military personnel and offer vacations, gifts, or whatever they may need. Without their service, our freedom would not exist, and we feel every Veteran deserves to be pampered and taken care of.
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. 
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active duty military personnel and Veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings.
Raven Rock Montain Complex
Raven Rock Mountain Complex is a DOD Installation located in south central PA, in the vicinity of Gettysburg. We would like to offer opportunities for recreational deer hunting to the Wounded Warriors beginning in February, 2011. Call: 717 878-2526 for more information.
Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Sports Program 
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago sports program provides adaptive sport and recreation opportunities for injured military personnel through U.S. Paralympic Military sports camps and ongoing sport, fitness, and recreation programs.
Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy, Inc. (SMART) 
SMART's Horses for Heroes program is a recreational and therapeutic horseback riding and carriage driving program serving military servicemen and women Veterans and their Families. This program is provided at no cost to these individuals. Our goal is to help ease Soldiers and their Families through their transitions back to civilian and Family life, as well as assist wounded warriors in their rehabilitation from war-related injuries. We are proud to serve those who have served. SMART is a non-profit organization and has been serving the community since 1987.
The Scott Rigsby Foundation 
The Scott Rigsby Foundation is dedicated to inspiring, informing, and enabling physically-challenged individuals with loss of limb or mobility to live an active lifestyle. They promote the health and fitness of physically challenged individuals by improving access to equipment and resources, while advancing technology and improving the long-term transition care network. Through the AW2 Community Support Network, they seek to enable all wounded warriors to cross their personal finish lines.
Semper Fi Community Task Force 
The Semper Fi Community Task Force is dedicated to helping military service members of all branches of service and their Families in times of need and to recognize their patriotic serve to protect our Nation's freedom. Semper Fi provides Veterans and their Families during the transition from the military life back to civilian life through mentoring, education, training and finding suitable jobs.
Shades of Green Armed Forces Recreation Center at Walt Disney World Resort 
The newly-expanded Shades of Green is one of two AFRCs in the continental United States. Shades of Green is a resort destination, offering resort accommodations and friendly hospitality. Located in a peaceful wooded setting with 586 oversized guest rooms, diverse dining options, championship golf, children's activities, and a location on Walt Disney World Resort, Shades of Green provides a relaxing vacation destination.
Show of Support Military Hunt 
The purpose of Show of Support is to demonstrate public support for the men and women of the military by providing outdoor opportunities to those injured in service to America. This program also brings public awareness to the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing and respect for natural resources, their care, and preservation.

Stay Strong Nation 
Stay Strong Nation works to create awareness of Soldiers and Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress (PTS) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They are involved in the building of a PTS facility in Maui, Hawaii, that will provide therapy for Veterans with PTS in a relaxed environment and offer recreational activities, such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, whale watching, jet skiing, hang gliding, and sport fishing.
Team River Runner 
Team River Runner (TRR) gives military Veterans and their Family members an opportunity to find health, healing, and new challenges through whitewater boating and other paddling sports. The benefits of TRR have as much to do with social support, finding emotional strength, and recreating personal identity as they do with athletic activity.
United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO) 
The USO is dedicated to providing world-class services and support to America's wounded warriors and their Families. From providing comfort kits to on-site recreational programs, the USO's network of care will be there, especially when needed most.
United States Association of Blind Athletes 
The U.S. Association of Blind Athletes Military Sport Program enhances the lives of disabled Veterans and disabled servicemembers who are blind and visually impaired by accelerating their rehabilitative process through sport, physical activity, and recreation, and assisting servicemembers in their reintegration to their home communities.
U.S. Olympic Committee Paralympic Military Program 
The U.S. Olympic Committee Paralympic Military Program provides post-rehabilitation support and mentoring to American servicemen and women who have sustained physical injuries such as traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, visual impairment/blindness, and stroke. Veterans are introduced to adaptive sport techniques and opportunities through clinics and camps and are also connected with ongoing Paralympic sports programs in their hometowns.
Vail Veterans Program 
The Vail Veterans Program offers skiing, snowboarding, and outdoor summer recreation activities to Unites States military men and women who have been severely injured while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is no cost to the participants or their Families who attend the program. The program focuses on abilities, not disabilities, and allows the participants to discover a renewed confidence in themselves.
Vets4Vets 
Vets4Vets is dedicated to helping Iraq/Afghanistan-era Veterans heal from the psychological injuries of war through the use of pure peer support. Their primary goal is to help these Veterans understand the value of peer support and regularly use peer support to express their emotions, manage their challenges, and ease their reintegration into society. Their vision is to provide a local Vets4Vets support group in the local area when a Veteran needs to talk to someone who really understands.
Warrior Weekend 
Warrior Weekend provides weekends of rest and relaxation for Soldiers and Marines who have been wounded in combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan and who are undergoing recovery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Missions focus on small groups of 8-10 and allow participants to enjoy themselves at various destination cities.
Wounded Warriors Family Ski Week 
The Wounded Warriors Family Ski Week (WWFSW) project is a partnership of the WWFSW Steering Committee and the nonprofit Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC). It provides a one-week snow ski experience and also offers a Family program for wounded warriors and their Families in Breckenridge, Colorado during April each year. Transportation, lodging, meals, ski instruction and equipment, souvenirs and activities for the Families are provided. Applications to participate are available on the website are accepted until January 15th of each year.
Wounded Warriors Family Support 
Our mission is to provide support to the Families of those who have been wounded, injured, or killed during combat operations. The Families of our causalities suffer in many ways: some financially, some psychologically. Wounded Warriors Family Support mitigates their trauma by allowing them to find peace and solace as a Family once more in Family-friendly resorts that we provide free of charge. The resort condos are quiet havens where these Families can reunite and become stronger.
