Cadre Selection Process
Military cadre members are carefully reviewed and selected to fill cadre positions at Warrior Transition Units (WTUs) and Community Based Warrior Transition Units (CBWTUs). Senior Commanders are responsible for resourcing and approving personnel to fill cadre positions. WTU/CBWTU commanders will interview and review the records of candidates to validate that the candidates possess the required skills to work as a WTU/CBWTU cadre member.
Reserve Component personnel who wish to support our wounded, ill or injured Soldiers as a cadre member should apply in the Tour of Duty system. Active Component Soldiers are selected from the installation. All personnel identified for assignment as cadre are assigned against an authorized TDA position commensurate to their service component. All cadre assignments are recommended as two-year obligations.

Only squad leaders and platoon sergeants are authorized SDAP. Soldiers must be performing and slotted in an authorized squad leader or platoon sergeant position to receive SDAP.
Recommended cadre assignments are two-years, but one 12-month extension may be requested. Active Component cadre personnel will be stabilized for 24 months upon assignment into the WTU.
WTU key leader positions include the battalion commander, battalion command sergeant major, separate company commander, first sergeant, platoon sergeant, squad leader, nurse case manager and senior nurse case manager.
